IO Interactive’s upcoming James Bond game, 007 First Light, is scheduled to release on May 27, 2026. According to CEO Hakan Abrak in an interview with The Game Business, the future of the franchise under IO Interactive’s development depends heavily on the public reception of the first title. Despite the uncertainty around sequels, Abrak expressed confidence in the game’s quality, noting that Amazon—the current IP holder for the James Bond franchise—is equally supportive and committed to ensuring all releases meet high standards.
A potential challenge for the game’s reach is the Nintendo Switch 2 port, which may face further delays beyond the previously announced summer 2026 release window. While the game is already running on Nintendo’s new platform, IO Interactive wants to ensure the best possible experience before launch, making another delay possible. However, the studio has confirmed the Switch 2 version is definitively coming.
In broader news about IO Interactive’s projects, CEO Abrak revealed that the studio’s fantasy RPG, announced back in 2023, is significantly advanced in development. Though details remain scarce, Abrak described the project as “very, very far” along, suggesting it could be moving toward completion alongside the studio’s other ongoing commitments, including continued development of Hitman: World of Assassination.
