Arcade Classic Arkanoid Hits the Bricks on PS5, PS4 Very Soon
Hamster Corporation has announced the arrival of another classic arcade title to PlayStation consoles: Arkanoid, the beloved brick-breaking game originally released by Taito in 1986. The game will launch on May 7th, 2026, arriving on PS5 through Arcade Archives 2 and on PS4 via Arcade Archives.
Arkanoid pioneered the brick-breaking genre with its engaging gameplay mechanics and innovative features. Players control a paddle-shaped ship at the bottom of the screen, bouncing a ball upward to destroy blocks arranged above. The game introduced multiple stages and power-up systems that enhanced the core formula established by games like Atari’s Breakout. These power-ups can expand the paddle, spawn additional balls, or provide other beneficial effects that add strategic depth to the straightforward premise.
As part of the Arcade Archives series, this release aims to provide a faithful reproduction of the original arcade experience, preserving the classic gameplay that made Arkanoid a staple of 1980s arcade cabinets. The Arcade Archives initiative has become known for bringing authentic versions of vintage games to modern platforms, allowing both nostalgic players and newcomers to experience gaming history.
