Forget The Cow Level, Diablo 4 Players Are Now Searching For Cow God
After nearly three years of searching, Diablo 4 players have finally discovered the game’s secret cow level, concluding an epic hunt that began with the game’s June 2023 release and continued through two expansions. The revelation has only intensified community excitement, as players now embark on an even more ambitious quest to find a legendary “Cow God.”
The secret portal leads to The Cow King, a formidable boss encounter that rewards victorious players with some of Diablo’s most unusual loot. Defeating the boss grants access to multiple instances of Prime Rib, a rare quest item, along with what has been described as “the wackiest item in Diablo history.”
The cow level discovery represents a triumph of community persistence and collaborative problem-solving. Blizzard had intentionally kept the level’s existence secret, maintaining the developer’s long-standing tradition of mystique around secret cow levels dating back to the original Diablo in 1996. That first game featured no actual cow level—it was merely an urban legend among fans that became a running joke with developers. The studio later canonized the concept by introducing Moo Moo Farm in Diablo 2, populated by deadly, axe-wielding bovines.
By hiding a genuine secret cow level in Diablo 4 for three years across two expansion releases, Blizzard executed an extended callback to this legacy. The discovery has reignited community engagement, spawning new mysteries and treasure hunts, particularly the emergent hunt for the rumored Cow God.
