Dying Light Franchise Director Steps Down After 13 Years at Techland
Tymon Smektala has stepped down as Franchise Director of Dying Light, ending a 13-year tenure at Polish developer Techland. Smektala joined the studio in May 2013 as a game designer and progressed to a producer role on the original Dying Light before eventually overseeing the entire franchise as its director.
During his nearly four years leading the Dying Light franchise, Smektala’s final project was Dying Light: The Beast. In a social media announcement, he expressed gratitude for his time at the studio, stating: “It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m proud of what we’ve built. Thank you to all the talented people of Techland I’ve had a chance to work with – across both development and publishing – for the passion, energy, and shared ambition to make Dying Light the ultimate zombie experience.”
Though specific details about Smektala’s next role remain undisclosed, he confirmed he is “moving into a new chapter.” Regarding the franchise’s future, he noted that Dying Light remains in “good hands,” suggesting confidence in whoever will assume leadership responsibilities.
