Halo Infinite gets surprise Gauntlet PvE mode six months after the last planned content update
Halo Infinite has surprised the community with an unexpected major update six months after its last planned content drop. In November 2025, Halo Studios indicated that update would be the final major content addition, as the team needed to focus on upcoming new Halo titles. However, the studio has now released Operation Firefight: Gauntlet, a new player-versus-environment (PvE) game mode.
Firefight: Gauntlet is a “deviously difficult” PvE experience designed for the most challenging gameplay possible. The mode features upgradeable attributes, elimination-based objectives, and auto-scaled difficulty settings that adapt to player performance. It’s structured around boss encounters in arena-based rounds, with reinforcements continuing until the boss is defeated in each area.
The surprise update has generated significant positive reception among players, with some calling it “the most fun I’ve had in Halo PvE in a long time.” The unexpected release raises questions about whether Halo Studios’ previous statement about November 2025 being the final update was definitive, or if additional content may still be planned for the game’s continued live-service operation.
