A book with a new Brandon Sanderson story raises $1 million on Kickstarter
Brandon Sanderson’s upcoming novel Songs of the Dead will make its debut as an excerpt in a Kickstarter-funded anthology aimed at supporting co-author Peter Orullian’s medical expenses. The book represents a departure from Sanderson’s signature Cosmere universe, instead depicting a fantastical version of modern London ruled by a secret society of magic-wielders.
Unbroken: New Tales by Masters of Fantasy launched on Kickstarter on April 21 and has already surpassed $1 million in funding. The collection features stories from 35 authors alongside the Songs of the Dead excerpt. The anthology was conceived by editor Shawn Speakman, who previously used a similar model in 2013 with Unfettered: Tales by Masters of Fantasy to fund his own medical costs.
