Take-Two CEO Is “Deeply Disappointed” by BioShock 4’s Delays
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has expressed disappointment with the prolonged development of the next BioShock game, now in active development for over six years with no release date announced.
Cloud Chamber, the studio formed to lead development following Irrational Games’ downsizing after 2013’s BioShock Infinite, began work on the project in 2019. The extended timeline marks an unprecedented gap for a franchise known for quick releases—the first three mainline entries shipped in 2007, 2010, and 2013 respectively, creating a 13-year drought since Infinite.
In a recent interview, Zelnick acknowledged the difficulties, stating he is “deeply disappointed” by delays and admitting that “in retrospect, we wasted a lot of time and money.” Earlier attempts by Hangar 13 in 2018 ultimately fizzled. Cloud Chamber underwent significant leadership restructuring last year in an attempt to accelerate progress and establish clearer creative direction.
Despite the acknowledged setbacks and recent management changes, Take-Two has not provided a target release window. However, Zelnick indicated he is “feeling a lot better” about the project’s current trajectory following the restructuring and new leadership team’s arrival.
