AC Black Flag Remake Basically Lets You Become Aquaman
“Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced,” Ubisoft’s officially revealed remake of the popular pirate-themed action game, is being designed with comprehensive accessibility features at its core. In a May 7 blog post, Ubisoft shared details about the game’s accessibility options, with input from director of user experience Jonathan Bedard and game designer Maksym Smolynets.
The accessibility suite includes several notable features aimed at making the game playable for a wider audience. Players will have the option to skip quick-time events (QTEs), traditionally a challenge for those with certain disabilities or motor control limitations. Additionally, the game allows players to disable shark attacks, a significant environmental hazard in the original title, and features an option to enable underwater breathing indefinitely—a playful approach to removing a previously restrictive game mechanic for players who want to explore freely.
These accessibility features represent a growing industry trend toward inclusive game design. Rather than treating accessibility as an afterthought, Ubisoft has baked these options directly into the core experience of Black Flag Resynced, allowing players of all abilities to enjoy the pirate adventure at their own pace.
The remake had been widely anticipated before its official announcement, with industry insiders referring to it as gaming’s “worst-kept secret.” Now that it’s public, Ubisoft is detailing how the reimagined version will enhance the original Black Flag experience while making it more accessible to players who may have struggled with the original’s mechanics.
