Dracula: The Disciple May Be the PS5’s First Puzzlevania

Dracula: The Disciple is a newly announced first-person puzzle game in development for PlayStation 5 by developer Cyanide and publisher Nacon, targeting a 2027 release. The game has been branded as a “Puzzlevania”—a term Nacon hopes will catch on to describe this emerging genre.

Players assume the role of Emile Valombres, a terminally ill archivist who travels to Dracula’s castle in Transylvania searching for a cure. The game prioritizes exploration and observation, emphasizing slow-paced, subtle gameplay over action-driven mechanics. It appears designed for players fatigued by the proliferation of Metroidvania titles on PS5, instead focusing on environmental storytelling and puzzle-solving within the iconic castle setting.

The project’s trajectory remains uncertain due to publisher Nacon’s ongoing financial struggles with insolvency. Despite these concerns, development continues as the publisher attempts to diversify its portfolio beyond its established action and simulation offerings.
