Steins;Gate Is Getting a ‘ReBoot’ on 6 Platforms Including Nintendo Switch 2 This August
Steins;Gate, the acclaimed 2009 visual novel originally released on Xbox 360, is receiving a comprehensive remake called Steins;Gate Re:Boot. The game will launch in Japan on August 20, 2026, across six platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch 1 & 2, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Developer MAGES has announced the release through a new opening movie and preview materials, including footage of the remake’s revamped “E-mote” character animation system. The Re:Boot features completely refreshed character artwork, remastered visuals, a refined user interface, and a revitalized storyline described as a “true reboot of the legendary story of time and fate.”
While an official Western release date has not been confirmed, strong indicators suggest a simultaneous global launch is likely. The Japanese version will include English language subtitles alongside Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese support. Spike Chunsoft will publish the game in Western markets.
This marks another comprehensive remake for the Science Adventure series flagship title. Since its original 2009 Xbox 360 release, Steins;Gate has seen numerous ports across PSP, PS3, PS Vita, and PlayStation 4, with anime-derived versions on some platforms. The Re:Boot represents the most extensive remake to date, featuring entirely refreshed assets and systems rather than simple ports.
