GTA 6 Company Reveals Which One Of Its Franchises Lost “A Great Deal Of Money”
Take-Two Interactive, the publisher behind major franchises like Grand Theft Auto, NBA 2K, Civilization, Borderlands, and BioShock, has confirmed it will not return to MLB-licensed baseball video games. In an interview, CEO Strauss Zelnick explained the decision, citing significant financial losses from the company’s history with baseball games.
“We had a tough history with MLB,” Zelnick stated. “It’s no secret there that we lost a great deal of money with them. And I don’t like losing money.”
The primary reason for the exit is market size. Zelnick described the MLB video game market as “too small” for Take-Two’s strategic focus. The company has decided to concentrate its resources on game projects with higher revenue potential and greater likelihood of profitability, rather than continuing to invest in a category where it has struggled to achieve financial success.
This decision reflects a broader business strategy at Take-Two to be selective about which franchises and licenses the publisher pursues, prioritizing profitability and market opportunity over maintaining a presence in every gaming category.
