Valorant Devs Disable Neon on PC, Promise Nerfs

Riot Games has temporarily disabled Neon, a playable Agent in tactical hero shooter Valorant, on PC following the discovery of a graphical exploit. The developers have pledged to implement significant balance changes to the character before returning her to playable status.

The exploit leverages NVIDIA graphics functionality and remains effective even while running Riot’s Vanguard kernel-level anti-cheat, as it operates outside traditional cheat detection parameters. Neon has long been considered one of Valorant’s most problematic Agents in terms of balance, making this technical vulnerability a catalyst for immediate action.

The disable will apply to online competitive tournaments, affecting the broader esports ecosystem. However, the restriction does not extend to LAN-based competitions where in-person administrative oversight is available. This distinction allows professional players competing in the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) to continue using Neon, including in the upcoming VCT EMEA Stage 1 playoffs, while online tournament play remains restricted.

Riot’s approach reflects the broader challenge of maintaining competitive integrity in live-service games when technical exploits intersect with existing character balancing issues. The promised nerfs suggest developers view Neon as requiring fundamental ability adjustments beyond simply patching the current vulnerability.
