Project Helix Stream Today: Xbox Game Dev Update Spring ‘26 Starts Soon
Microsoft held its inaugural Xbox Game Dev Update broadcast on May 7, 2026, to discuss its next-generation console codenamed Project Helix. The developer-focused stream aired on the Xbox Game Dev YouTube channel at 5pm BST (12pm ET / 9am PT) and was hosted by Xbox leaders Chris Charla and Jason Ronald, VP of Next Generation.
However, the event did not include new announcements about Project Helix. Instead, it served as a recap of details previously shared at the Game Developers Conference in March for developers who missed the original presentation. Jason Ronald confirmed on social media that the showcase was a review of existing information rather than a reveal of new specifications or features.
Microsoft did confirm that more details about Project Helix will be shared later in 2026, with possible announcements potentially occurring at the Xbox Games Showcase in June. Project Helix is positioned as a next-generation hybrid PC/console device that will succeed the current Xbox Series X/S consoles. The device is expected to deliver improved performance compared to current-generation systems, including the PS5, while maintaining the plug-and-play simplicity of traditional consoles alongside the flexibility of PC gaming.
