The Boys creator responds to Gen V’s cancellation and superhero fatigue

Prime Video has cancelled Gen V, the superhero spinoff set in The Boys universe, after two seasons. The cancellation comes as the main series enters its fifth and final season. However, creator Eric Kripke remains committed to continuing the stories of the Gen V characters within the broader Vought Cinematic Universe.

In an interview with Polygon, Kripke expressed optimism about the franchise’s future, stating: “I think there is more story among the Gen V kids. It won’t necessarily be in Gen V, but hopefully we can get some more Vought series going so that we can continue their story.”

The cancellation will not affect Kripke’s upcoming prequel Vought Rising, which has already been written. The series features a complete season-long story with a satisfying conclusion while opening doors to new narrative directions. Kripke’s comments suggest Amazon remains committed to expanding the Vought universe despite the Gen V setback.

The cancellation reflects broader industry discussion around superhero content fatigue, though the specific factors behind Prime Video’s decision remain unclear. Despite this, Kripke’s plans indicate the franchise will continue evolving beyond the main Boys series, potentially through additional spinoffs yet to be announced.
