GTA 6 Company “Exploring” AI To Help Make Games “Smarter” And Possibly Bring Down Costs
GTA 6 is shaping up to be one of the most expensive games ever produced, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has openly acknowledged the significant financial risk involved in such a massive investment. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Zelnick described the budgetary reality of modern AAA game development and the company’s strategy for managing escalating costs.
According to Zelnick, rising production costs are nearly unavoidable when pursuing the highest quality standards. “Development costs have gone up and up,” he told Bloomberg. “We really do aim to deliver the highest quality entertainment on Earth. And that is costly.” Zelnick characterizes GTA 6’s multi-billion-dollar investment as a “high-stakes game for big boys only,” suggesting that only the largest publishers with substantial resources can sustain such expenditures.
Take-Two is exploring artificial intelligence as a potential tool to make games “smarter” and possibly help bring down development costs in the future. However, Zelnick tempered expectations about AI’s immediate impact, noting that the company hasn’t yet seen AI-driven solutions reduce production costs. “We haven’t seen those costs decline yet,” he stated. “Maybe we will. Maybe we won’t.”
Despite the enormous financial commitment required for GTA 6’s development, Zelnick expressed confidence in the company’s approach, stating he’s “cool with it.” The remarks highlight the tension between the industry’s pursuit of cutting-edge, high-quality experiences and the escalating budgets required to achieve them, while showing cautious optimism about whether emerging technologies can reshape development economics.
