Helldivers 2 Dev Promises More Content Is on the Way as Disgruntled Players Drag Steam Reviews Down to ‘Mostly Negative’

Helldivers 2’s recent Steam reviews have plummeted to “Mostly Negative” as the community expresses dissatisfaction with the live-service shooter. The backlash comes just three months after the game was performing well with the Cyberstan galactic campaign, which featured new tanks, challenging enemies, and engaging narrative content. Player frustration stems from several issues: alleged hidden changes to weapon balance, underwhelming cosmetic offerings through warbonds, and a perceived lack of substantial new content.

Developer Arrowhead Game Studios has responded to the community outcry with a blog post acknowledging the concerns and apologizing for unclear communication about future updates. The studio affirmed that “Helldivers 2 matters to all of us” and promised renewed transparency about upcoming work.

To address the criticism, Arrowhead outlined several planned improvements coming this summer. The galactic war will introduce longer multi-week themed campaigns to replace the existing weekly major orders system, offering increased player engagement and storytelling depth. The studio also committed to adding more branching outcomes within the campaign, providing greater player agency. Additionally, Arrowhead revealed that new exosuits will no longer be locked exclusively behind paid warbonds, addressing monetisation concerns.

While Helldivers 2 maintains a stable player base despite the negative reviews, this represents one of the sharpest declines in community sentiment since the game’s early 2024 launch. The developer’s roadmap suggests Arrowhead is committed to rebuilding trust through more frequent and substantial content updates.
