Microsoft Store drops registration fees for companies as part of onboarding overhaul
Microsoft has eliminated registration fees for companies on the Microsoft Store, extending a developer-friendly policy change it initially implemented for individual developers last September. Companies were previously required to pay a $99 onboarding fee to gain access to the platform; this fee has now been completely removed.
As part of a comprehensive onboarding overhaul, Microsoft has also introduced support for Microsoft Entra ID, enabling developers and organizations to register and sign in using their work accounts. This addition addresses longstanding developer requests for streamlined authentication and simplified account management during the signup process.
The initiatives underscore Microsoft’s push to attract more developers to the Microsoft Store platform. According to Giorgio Sardo, Microsoft’s Vice President overseeing the Store, these updates are specifically designed to lower barriers to entry and simplify the onboarding journey. By removing financial obstacles and improving the authentication experience, Microsoft aims to encourage broader developer adoption and make the Microsoft Store a more accessible and welcoming platform for both individual creators and established companies alike.
