Pokémon Red & Blue’s original manga returns with deluxe rerelease

Pokémon Adventures: Red and Blue Deluxe Edition Vol. 1 will release on October 27 as a 476-page deluxe rerelease of the classic Pokémon manga series, published by Viz Media and Simon & Schuster. Originally written by Hidenori Kusaka and illustrated by Mato, the manga has been revived for its darker, more sophisticated take on the Pokémon universe compared to mainstream adaptations.

Structured as story arcs based on Pokémon video game releases, the Red and Blue arc follows protagonist Red’s rivalry with Blue throughout their journey. The series has gained recognition for exploring the franchise’s darker elements while resonating with Pokémon creator Satoshi Tajiri’s original vision. Tajiri praised the work, stating, “This is the comic that most resembles the world I was trying to convey,” highlighting how the manga captures a tone distinct from other Pokémon media adaptations.

The deluxe rerelease represents an effort to preserve and celebrate this influential manga work, making it available to both longtime fans and new audiences while honoring the original creative team and the franchise’s literary legacy.
