Now is the perfect time to rewatch the Netflix Punisher series
The Punisher is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a new project. Frank Castle, portrayed by Jon Bernthal, made his official MCU comeback in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again and will receive his own spotlight with Punisher: One Last Kill, a 60-minute special premiering on Disney Plus on May 12. The special marks a continuation of the character’s arc within the MCU.
The character’s MCU journey began during season 2 of Daredevil in early 2016, where Frank Castle emerged as an independent vigilante, brutally eliminating members of rival gangs following the assassination of his family during a gang crossfire. This storyline became foundational to his character development within the broader Marvel universe.
In anticipation of the upcoming release, audiences are being encouraged to rewatch the original Netflix Punisher series—a two-season run that originally premiered on Netflix before being made available on Disney Plus—to refresh themselves with the character’s backstory before the new special airs.
