PlayStation is partnering with Bandai Namco for a “collaborative initiative” focused on generative AI

Sony and Bandai Namco have announced a collaborative pilot initiative to explore how generative AI and emerging technologies can enhance game development. The partnership was revealed during Sony’s 2025/2026 fiscal year presentation, with Sony Group president and CEO Hiroki Totoki emphasizing the importance of keeping human creativity at the center of the initiative.

Totoki stressed that generative AI is not intended to replace artists or creators, but rather to “amplify human imagination and [act as] a catalyst for new possibilities.” The collaboration aims to explore how these technologies can “most effectively contribute to delighting the creator’s vision,” with a particular focus on streamlining repetitive workflows in the game development process.

The announcement reflects a broader industry trend toward AI integration, following similar moves by other major publishers. Ubisoft recently announced plans to explore generative AI as part of their development processes, demonstrating growing interest across the gaming sector in leveraging AI tools.

The partnership represents a measured approach to AI adoption, with both companies positioning the technology as a tool to enhance rather than replace the creative process. As generative AI continues to evolve, collaborations like this suggest how major industry players are attempting to harness the technology while addressing creator concerns about job displacement and artistic integrity.
