Switch 2 sales reach nearly 20m almost one year after release, but Nintendo has lowered the console’s forecast for 2027

The Nintendo Switch 2 has achieved nearly 20 million units sold worldwide, reaching 19.86 million as of March 31, 2026, according to Nintendo’s latest financial results. Launching in June 2025, the Switch 2 has become Nintendo’s fastest-selling console to date, outperforming the original Switch during its first full fiscal year.

However, despite this impressive sales milestone, Nintendo has tempered expectations for the upcoming fiscal year. The company has lowered its forecast for fiscal year 2027 (ending March 31, 2027) to 16.50 million units, a notable decline from the current year’s performance. Nintendo attributed this adjustment to the fact that Switch 2 sales were “more concentrated in the launch year in comparison to previous hardware systems,” indicating that the console experienced frontloaded demand typical of major platform launches.

Adding to the outlook, Nintendo has announced price increases across its products and services, including the Switch 2, citing memory shortage issues. Despite the price revisions and expected year-on-year decline, the company remains optimistic, describing the forecasted sales level as “a solid level of adoption for Nintendo Switch 2 in its second year after launch.” The Switch 2’s software library contributed 48.71 million units sold, demonstrating strong software attach rates alongside the hardware momentum.
