Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream Is Selling Like Hotcakes

Nintendo’s social life simulator Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has kicked off its sales cycle with impressive numbers, moving 3.8 million units globally within just two weeks of its April 16 launch. The strong performance was revealed in Nintendo’s financial results for the fiscal year ending March 2026.

While the game technically launched too late to be fully captured in the company’s fiscal year report (which concludes at the end of March), Nintendo confirmed that the early sales trajectory is well ahead of expectations. The 3.8 million units sold in the opening fortnight represents a significant commercial success for the title on the Nintendo Switch 2.

The performance gains additional context when compared to the original Tomodachi Life released on the Nintendo 3DS. That version became the handheld system’s 10th best-selling game overall, with lifetime sales of 6.73 million units — outperforming titles like A Link Between Worlds and the Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask remakes. Living the Dream’s pace suggests it could potentially exceed the original’s performance given such a strong start.

The title arrives at a time when Nintendo’s hardware expectations are being recalibrated, with the company projecting fewer Switch 2 unit sales during its second full year on the market. Despite these hardware projections, the strong software performance of Living the Dream demonstrates continued commercial viability for Nintendo’s first-party catalog on the new platform. The social simulation genre evidently retains significant appeal with Switch audiences, and the revival of the beloved franchise appears to have struck a chord with both series veterans and new players.
