Valorant Devs Outline Upcoming Neon, Shotgun, and Cooldown Changes
Valorant developer Riot Games has announced upcoming gameplay balance changes targeting Neon, shotguns, and Agent cooldowns, with patches scheduled for May 12 (patch 12.09) and further adjustments planned for the 13.00 patch.
The changes come following the recent disabling of Neon on PC after players discovered and exploited a graphical bug in her Fast Lane ability that allowed visibility through the ability. The extended downtime has prompted the development team to address underlying design issues with the Agent.
The primary focus of the Neon changes is rebalancing her mobility and aggressive playstyle. Neon’s boundless aggression has been identified as a balance concern, and the upcoming nerfs aim to create better equilibrium between aggressive and tactical gameplay patterns. These adjustments seek to make her more fair to play against while maintaining her core identity as a mobile, aggressive Agent.
Beyond Neon-specific changes, the balance update will also impact shotguns and Agent cooldown mechanics more broadly, indicating a larger effort to refine the competitive experience. The staggered approach—with immediate changes in 12.09 and further refinements in 13.00—suggests Riot’s iterative approach to balance, allowing them to assess the impact of early changes before implementing additional modifications.
These adjustments are part of Valorant’s ongoing live service evolution, where the development team regularly monitors agent effectiveness and playstyle prevalence in competitive play.
