Dragon Quest Creator Yuji Horii Teases Announcement For “Next Game”
Square Enix’s Dragon Quest series will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a livestream on May 27, series creator Yuji Horii revealed. In an episode of the KosoKoso Broadcast, Horii confirmed the event would feature announcements about “the next game” alongside “various other things,” though he provided no additional details. The Broadcast episode was subsequently delisted, suggesting Horii may have inadvertently revealed information ahead of an official announcement.
The announcement has generated significant anticipation among fans, particularly regarding potential news about Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, which was first revealed at the series’ 35th anniversary celebration in 2021 but has seen no major updates in the five years since. That 2021 event set a precedent for the series, yielding multiple game announcements including Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and Dragon Quest Treasures.
With the May 27 livestream now confirmed, fans are eagerly awaiting what Square Enix will unveil for the long-running RPG franchise on its milestone anniversary date.
