Rejoice, Doormaker haters, for Mega Crit have removed him from Slay the Spire 2 in favour of a brand new boss

Mega Crit Games has released a new patch for Slay the Spire 2, version 0.105.0, bringing notable changes to the roguelike deck-building game’s roster of challenges. The update marks a significant shift in the game’s development approach, moving away from a weekly patching schedule in favor of bi-weekly updates.

The most notable change in this patch involves boss encounters. Doormaker, a previously featured boss that was unpopular with the community, has been removed from the game. Rather than simply cutting the encounter, Mega Crit is replacing it with an entirely new boss character, giving players fresh challenges to overcome.

Mega Crit explained their reasoning for the patching schedule change, noting that weekly updates—the pace maintained during the original Slay the Spire’s development—proved to be extremely demanding on the team. The developers stated that the new bi-weekly schedule will allow them more time between updates to work on substantial improvements. “This may be a bit surprising as the first game patched weekly, but it was a lot of work so it really sucked,” the studio said in their patch notes. They emphasized that the extended development cycle between patches enables “bigger changes and more time working,” allowing the team to deliver more meaningful updates while maintaining sustainable working conditions.

The patch is currently available to players in Slay the Spire 2’s ongoing Early Access beta period. This change reflects Mega Crit’s commitment to balancing player engagement with developer well-being during the game’s continued development toward full release.
