Paranormal Activity: Threshold is as dead as its ghosts, as the game gets canned because Paramount couldn’t wait any longer
The game “Paranormal Activity: Threshold” has been officially cancelled. Solo developer Brian Clarke, operating under the studio name DarkStone Digital, announced the cancellation via social media, citing the demanding nature of independent game development. Clarke, known for his 2022 title “The Mortuary Assistant,” explained that the project required significantly more development time to meet quality standards.
In his statement, Clarke noted that “game development means constant change and challenges especially as a solo indie,” and determined that continuing development under current circumstances was not feasible. He emphasized that “the game needed more time to ensure it was the best it could possibly be.”
The title was an adaptation of the Paranormal Activity franchise, the horror property owned and published by Paramount. The cancellation represents the end of this particular gaming venture for the IP and reflects the broader challenges faced by independent developers working on licensed properties, particularly when balancing development scope against available resources and timeline constraints.
