Guerrilla Games co-founder developing European game engine to rival Unreal and Unity
Arjan Brussee, co-founder of Guerrilla Games and former technology director at Epic Games, is developing a new game engine as a European alternative to dominant US-based engines such as Unreal and Unity. The engine, called The Immessive Engine, is designed to serve as a European option for game developers.
Brussee highlighted a gap in the current market, stating: “No one is currently making an engine that is fully European-hosted, built by Europeans, and complies with European rules and guidelines.” The Immessive Engine aims to address this by providing a game development platform that is entirely European-hosted and European-built while meeting European regulatory compliance requirements.
Beyond his work at Guerrilla Games, Brussee has extensive industry credentials. He previously held the position of technology director at Epic Games and co-founded Boss Key Productions alongside renowned designer Cliff Bleszinski. The new engine project represents an effort to provide game studios with alternative development tools, expanding their options beyond the currently dominant US-based platforms.
