Skywind’s latest update highlights the impressive total conversion mod turning Skyrim into Morrowind

Skywind, an ambitious community-driven mod that reimagines The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind within The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, has reached a significant milestone with a major update on May 8. The project, which began in 2012 and was last prominently covered by Polygon in 2014, has been quietly developed by over 100 volunteers for the past two years before sharing their progress.

The update video reveals substantial advancement across multiple development areas. Most 2D and 3D art assets are nearing completion, alongside the majority of writing and voice acting work. Ten of Morrowind’s thirteen regions are nearly finished, while three-quarters of the required animation work has been completed. These metrics demonstrate the mod’s significant progress toward its ambitious goal of recreating an entire classic RPG within a newer engine.

Despite the impressive achievements, the Skywind team acknowledges that considerable work remains in several areas of development. The project represents one of gaming’s most elaborate community-driven conversion efforts, showcasing the dedication and scale of passion projects within the modding community.
