Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight goes live early for some Xbox players as the PC version gets Denuvo DRM

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight became unexpectedly playable for some Xbox players over the weekend, approximately ten days ahead of its May 22 release date. Players who pre-ordered the digital version through Walmart and pre-loaded the game on Xbox Series X/S consoles discovered they could boot into the fully installed title after receiving a “ready to start” notification. The issue appears to have affected a limited number of players and was caused by Walmart’s pre-order codes activating prematurely.

Warner Bros. Games released a patch shortly after to block access to the game. Some players who kept their consoles offline before installing the update reportedly retained access to their early copy, while those with auto-update enabled lost the ability to continue playing. The incident occurred during a particularly chaotic week for gaming, with a similar unencrypted build of Forza Horizon 6 also leaking on PC during the same period.

In a separate development, the publisher confirmed that the PC version of Lego Batman will include Denuvo DRM, an anti-piracy protection that has proven divisive among the PC gaming community. The publisher quietly added this protection to the PC release, mirroring a similar situation with Pearl Abyss and Crimson Desert earlier in 2026. The game’s official release is scheduled for May 22, with Deluxe edition purchasers granted early access starting May 19.
