Mortal Kombat 2 Writer Reveals A Character Who Got Cut From The Script

Mortal Kombat 2 screenwriter Jeremy Slater has revealed that the character Tremor was nearly included in the newly released film adaptation but was ultimately removed during the scripting phase. The character was originally designed to engage in combat with Sonya Blade and meet his end in the narrative. However, Slater determined that Tremor “just wasn’t working” and decided to cut him from the final script.

Despite removing the character, Slater expressed genuine appreciation for Tremor’s design and abilities, noting that the fighter possesses “really fun, really cool powers.” The decision to exclude him reflected the practical challenges of character development within the film’s scope rather than a lack of creative merit. Slater felt unable to devote sufficient narrative time to properly establish and sell Tremor as a fully realized character within the movie’s structure.

The Mortal Kombat 2 film ultimately features a roster including Johnny Cage, Kitana, Sonya Blade, and Shao Kahn, showcasing numerous characters from the popular fighting game franchise. Slater’s revelation highlights the editorial decisions that occur during film adaptation, where popular source material sometimes must be condensed or reimagined to fit cinematic constraints.
