Alex Oxspring and The Stupendium found new studio Stupendium Softworks
Game designer Alex Oxspring and YouTube musician The Stupendium have launched Stupendium Softworks, a new independent game studio based in the UK. The partnership brings together Oxspring’s extensive industry experience and The Stupendium’s creative recognition in gaming culture.
Oxspring has worked at several notable studios including Sumo Digital, Hitpoint Games, Firesprite, and nDreams. The Stupendium is known for creating nerdcore music videos and songs celebrating beloved games, building a significant YouTube following. The pair previously collaborated on the surreal dating sim OnlyCans: Thirst Date, establishing a creative foundation for their partnership.
Stupendium Softworks is developing its first game as a first-person survival horror title, with principal photography and production scheduled to begin this summer. The studio has positioned itself with a clear creative philosophy, committing to sustainable development practices and explicitly avoiding generative AI tools in game creation.
“Looking around the industry, it’s incredibly frustrating to see so much waste: poor management, high staff turnover, and low investment in craft,” Oxspring said, emphasizing the studio’s values-driven approach. The team’s about page describes their mission as creating “strange, sincere, deeply human games made by people who care far too much,” with a focus on “No generative AI, no wasted effort.”
This launch reflects growing industry interest in sustainable development practices and represents a notable creative partnership between a veteran developer and a recognizable media figure.
