Magic’s Yuna card became a mythic rare because FF10 wasn’t represented, designer says
Magic: The Gathering’s Yuna, Hope of Spira card became a mythic rare partly because Final Fantasy X wasn’t represented elsewhere in the June 2025 Final Fantasy Universes Beyond crossover set, according to the card’s designer. The author highlights their affinity for the card, explaining that while they love Final Fantasy X, Yuna’s mechanical design—enabling summoning of large creatures, buffing them, and recovering them from the graveyard—captures much of what they appreciate about Magic’s gameplay. The author constructed a Naya (red-green-white) enchantress deck around Yuna that functions as a Final Fantasy summoner deck in practice. Although Selesnya colors (green-white) would be optimal to match Yuna’s character thematically, the addition of red provides valuable synergies and gameplay flexibility. Since the crossover’s June 2025 release, Yuna has become the centerpiece of the author’s favorite Magic Arena deck, combining their passion for the Final Fantasy franchise with Magic’s mechanical depth.
