Amazon orders Fourth Wing fantasy series adaptation

Amazon Prime Video has ordered a television adaptation of Fourth Wing, the first novel in Rebecca Yarros’ best-selling The Empyrean romantasy series. The story follows Violet Sorrengail, a young woman conscripted by her militant mother to join the Basgiath War College alongside hundreds of other students to pursue a career as a dragon rider. The military academy comes with extreme consequences: those who fail to graduate do not survive.

The greenlight represents another major fantasy project for Prime Video, though it arrives in the wake of the platform’s cancellation of The Wheel of Time. That previous adaptation, helmed by showrunner Rafe Judkins, was noted for its striking visuals and acclaimed cast but was discontinued despite its critical reception.

Fourth Wing’s adaptation underscores the ongoing competition among streaming services to secure popular book franchises. Yarros’ series has built substantial momentum in recent years, generating strong reader engagement and establishing a dedicated fanbase that could support the television adaptation’s success.
