Developer who produced EA’s James Bond games says Batman Arkham Asylum was ‘exactly what we should have done’
Chuck Beaver, who served as localisation producer, designer, and design producer on EA’s James Bond game trilogy from 2002-2005, has reflected that the developer should have taken a different approach to the franchise. In a recent interview, Beaver discussed his work on 007: Nightfire, 007: Everything or Nothing, and 007: From Russia with Love—games he describes as “a challenge” to produce.
Beaver revealed that, looking back on his career, he now believes that a game modelled after Batman: Arkham Asylum would have been “exactly what we should have done” for a James Bond property. The comparison suggests that a more focused, character-driven action game would have been more suitable than the approach EA ultimately took with the Bond series.
The developer went on to produce the Dead Space trilogy following his work on the Bond games. His retrospective commentary reflects broader industry questions about adapting licensed franchises and the creative constraints developers face when working with iconic intellectual properties.
