Dead Space Producer Doubts Dead Space 4 Will Ever Be Made: ‘The Numbers Just Aren’t There’

Chuck Beaver, former writer and producer for EA’s Dead Space franchise, has stated that a fourth installment in the sci-fi horror series is unlikely to be developed. Speaking on the FRVR Podcast, Beaver explained that “the numbers just aren’t there,” meaning the franchise’s commercial performance does not justify the substantial investment required for a new entry.

According to Beaver, Dead Space would need to sell over 10 million copies to recoup the costs associated with the series’ high production values. He noted that Resident Evil—a significantly larger horror franchise—typically achieves around 7 million sales, which is considered strong performance in the industry. Despite maintaining a passionate fan base, Dead Space’s sales figures fall short of what would be necessary to greenlight another sequel.

The franchise’s final entry was Dead Space 3, and Beaver indicated this conclusion did not feel unreasonable given the commercial circumstances, though he acknowledged disappointment from both development team members and the community that the series could not reach its intended conclusion. His comments reflect a broader industry challenge: mid-tier game franchises with high production budgets require significant sales volumes to justify continued development, and when those targets aren’t met, projects are shelved regardless of fan enthusiasm.
