PS5 Fighter Marvel Tokon Has a 10-Hour Single Player Story, But It’s a Comic with No Gameplay

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, an upcoming PS5 fighting game developed by Arc System Works, will feature a 10-hour single-player story mode. However, unlike recent fighting game competitors such as Street Fighter 6’s World Tour or Mortal Kombat 1’s cinematic campaign, this narrative experience takes an unconventional approach: it’s entirely presented as an animated comic book or manga with no gameplay mechanics.

According to an interview Arc System Works gave to Japanese publication 4Gamer, the story will progress solely through animated panels that players read—there are no battles, no gameplay sequences, and no interactive decision-making. The presentation will include full voice acting and DualSense haptic feedback support to enhance the reading experience. However, there will be no dialogue choices, minigames, or other interactive elements beyond controlling the pacing.

Players will have limited control over their experience, including the ability to adjust the reading speed and pause to examine the artwork in detail. The full voice acting suggests production effort, even if the interactive elements are minimal.

This approach represents a departure from industry trends in fighting game design, where story modes have increasingly incorporated substantial single-player gameplay and narrative choices. The decision to present the story as an interactive comic rather than a traditional campaign has generated discussion in the community about what defines acceptable single-player content in fighting games.

For players seeking a story-driven experience with traditional gameplay mechanics, this feature may not meet expectations. However, for those interested in the game’s lore and willing to engage with visual narrative, the 10-hour commitment and voice acting suggest a substantial story experience in a different medium.
