Salvation’s Child preview: read The Final Architecture prequel’s opening here

Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Hugo-nominated Final Architecture trilogy, released between 2021 and 2023, has been hailed as among the finest space operas of the 21st century. The trilogy—comprising Shards of Earth, Eyes of the Void, and Lords of Uncreation—depicts a future where humanity faces constant existential threats from the Architects, vast moon-sized creatures capable of traveling outside normal space who periodically emerge to devastate entire planets.

Expanding this universe, Tchaikovsky is releasing Salvation’s Child, a prequel graphic novel for which Polygon has shared exclusive excerpts. The new work explores the origin story of Xavienne Torino, known as “Xavi,” establishing her significance within the expanded Final Architecture saga. The shift from novel to graphic novel format offers readers a new medium through which to experience Tchaikovsky’s richly constructed science fiction world while maintaining the ambitious scope that defined the original trilogy.
