CoD Veteran’s New Shooter Is “Not A Call Of Duty Killer,” Inspired By David Lynch

David Vonderhaar, a legendary first-person shooter developer who spent nearly two decades at Treyarch before departing in 2023, has announced a new project at his studio BulletFarm Games. The studio is developing a new first-person multiplayer and co-operative shooter experience that Vonderhaar emphasizes is “definitely not” another military simulation or Call of Duty competitor.

Instead, Vonderhaar describes the creative vision as inspired by filmmaker David Lynch, positioning it as something unconventional for the shooter genre. The announcement comes via Vonderhaar’s first social media post in over a year, signaling his return to public visibility.

Funding for the project comes from GTG, a newly established holding company committed to supporting BulletFarm’s development. The backing follows NetEase’s withdrawal of previous funding as part of a strategy to divest its Western gaming assets. BulletFarm raised $100 million to support its comeback efforts.

Vonderhaar’s involvement marks a significant moment for the shooter community, as his work on Call of Duty titles established him as one of the most influential figures in multiplayer design. His new venture represents an attempt to bring fresh, unconventional ideas to the competitive multiplayer space.
