Xbox Game Preservation Adds New Tool To Vote For Delisted Games, Initial Top 10 Revealed

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Preservation initiative has introduced a new voting tool for players to request the return of delisted games to the platform. The effort began when Xbox VP of next-gen Jason Ronald recommended the preservation website to fans interested in backwards compatibility requests, which has since garnered nearly 400,000 votes.

The Xbox Game Preservation website has evolved to include a dedicated “Delisted Games” section, allowing the community to vote for titles they wish to see made available again on the platform. This represents an effort to address the persistent issue of game availability, where licensing agreements and publishing changes often result in games being removed from digital storefronts.

The initial top 10 delisted games list includes titles like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, reflecting significant community interest in restoring access to previously unavailable games. This voting mechanism gives players direct input into Xbox’s decisions about which titles to prioritize for restoration, potentially helping address a broader industry challenge of preserving gaming history and ensuring long-term access to published works.

The initiative demonstrates Xbox’s commitment to game preservation while also tapping into community engagement around backwards compatibility, a feature that has become increasingly central to the platform’s value proposition.
