Real-World Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Treasure Hunt Includes $500,000 In Gold Coins

Ubisoft has partnered with French startup Unsolved Hunts to create a real-world treasure hunt promotion for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Called “Gold & Crystal — The Lost Treasure of Edward Kenway,” the hunt features a prize valued at $500,000, consisting of specially-minted solid gold coins ($350,000) and a rock crystal skull adorned with a red opal jewel ($150,000).

Players can purchase a puzzle pack for $41 to participate, gaining access to 15 elaborate riddles themed around the game. The puzzles incorporate pirate-themed elements including an encrypted message in a bottle, a map of the Caribbean, and various letters and archives. No prior knowledge of Black Flag is required to solve them.

The treasure chest is buried somewhere in the Caribbean, and participants must decipher all clues to discover its location. The hunt officially launches on November 9 and is expected to last between 2 and 5 years. This unconventional marketing approach creates an immersive experience that extends the franchise beyond traditional gaming, combining real-world adventure with the game’s pirate theme.
