PS5 Soccer Sequel Captain Tsubasa Takes Its Shot Shortly After the World Cup

Bandai Namco has announced that Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters, the sequel to its 2020 anime soccer game, will launch on PlayStation 5 on August 28, 2026. The timing places the release just weeks after the FIFA World Cup concludes, capitalizing on global soccer enthusiasm.

The sequel promises significant gameplay enhancements over its predecessor. The developer has revamped the action system with powerful new super moves that extend beyond shooting to encompassing passing and defensive actions. Goalkeeper versus shooter duels have received particular attention, featuring spectacular super shots and blocks inspired by moments from the original anime series. These additions aim to inject greater strategic depth into every aspect of gameplay.

Pre-order customers will receive digital bonuses that complement the soccer theme, including kits representing the 2026 Japanese national team and World Youth jersey, as well as early access to the Brazil youth team roster. Pre-order bundles also unlock additional audio tracks.

The original Captain Tsubasa game debuted on PlayStation 4 in 2020, establishing the foundation for this sequel. Now transitioning to current-generation hardware, Captain Tsubasa 2 aims to leverage the PS5’s capabilities to deliver an enhanced experience combining the franchise’s characteristic anime flair with modernized soccer gameplay mechanics.
