Hoping for a Dead Space 4? Series writer and producer Chuck Beaver says the “numbers just aren’t there” to make it happen

Dead Space 4 will likely never be made, according to Dead Space series producer and writer Chuck Beaver. In an interview with the FRVR podcast, Beaver stated that “the numbers just aren’t there” to justify development of another installment, citing insufficient financial performance to convince Electronic Arts leadership to greenlight the project.

The franchise faces a profitability hurdle despite a dedicated fanbase. The 2023 Dead Space remake, developed by Motive, sold over 2 million copies but apparently failed to meet EA’s financial thresholds for approving new major productions. This assessment is reinforced by reports that a Dead Space 2 remake had been in development but was ultimately cancelled for similar financial reasons.

Beavers explanation reflects a broader challenge in the gaming industry: while Dead Space maintains passionate supporters, securing funding for AAA-scale development requires demonstrating potential for blockbuster-level commercial success. EA requires new entries to justify significant production investments.

The comments come after Dead Space creator Glen Schofield made optimistic remarks about a new game’s possibility the previous year. With both traditional sequels and remake efforts reportedly struggling to secure approval internally at Electronic Arts, the franchise appears indefinitely shelved. The situation underscores how mid-tier franchises, regardless of critical reception or cult followings, face mounting difficulty in the current industry climate without projections of massive mainstream appeal.
