Fortnite Zero Build Is Getting A Much-Needed Overhaul This Week

Epic Games is rolling out a major overhaul to Fortnite Zero Build on May 14, marking the first dedicated update to the mode since its introduction in 2022. The update, the last major patch for Chapter 7 Season 2, introduces several fundamental gameplay changes intended to reshape how Zero Build matches unfold.

Key additions include a new utility slot exclusive to Zero Build, offering enhanced tactical customization. Players can now redeploy their gliders at any time when jumping from tall objects, increasing mobility options. The pickaxe mechanic has been improved to grant unlimited sprint while equipped, changing engagement dynamics.

Most significantly, fall damage has been completely eliminated, fundamentally altering how players navigate and strategize across the map. These changes represent substantial departures from traditional Fortnite mechanics and are expected to significantly alter gameplay flow and strategy.

This update reflects a shift in Epic Games’ approach, with Zero Build receiving its own distinct update cycle rather than only receiving changes alongside the main build mode. The decision acknowledges the growing player base within Zero Build and the need for mode-specific balance adjustments and gameplay evolution.
