Framework says DDR5 memory costs ‘remain fairly stable’ but ‘on SSDs, the pricing story is unfortunately not as positive’ as it raises prices again

Framework, a modular laptop manufacturer, has announced mixed news regarding component costs. While DDR5 memory prices from suppliers have remained relatively stable over the past few months, the company faces a less favorable situation with solid-state drives.

Framework previously purchased DDR5 memory inventory at lower costs, which they have now fully consumed. As a result, they must source new modules at current market prices, requiring them to raise their DDR5 pricing accordingly. The memory cost adjustment reflects the gap between their previous inventory prices and current supplier costs.

The situation with SSDs is described by Framework as “unfortunately not as positive.” The company has been forced to raise SSD pricing due to increased sourcing costs in the storage market. This marks another price adjustment for customers seeking Framework’s modular laptops, which are designed with user-replaceable components.

The announcement highlights the ongoing challenges in the PC hardware market, where supply chain dynamics and commodity pricing continue to impact manufacturers and consumers. While Framework acknowledges the stability in memory costs, the pressure on SSD pricing demonstrates that the component market remains volatile in certain categories.
