Bungie is turning Marathon’s loot dial to 11 ahead of its first wipe, opening up Cryo Archive 24/7
Bungie is implementing significant adjustments to Marathon’s loot progression system ahead of the game’s first major seasonal wipe scheduled for May 19. Players have reported hitting severe progression walls after dozens of hours, with quest objectives becoming increasingly lengthy and demanding while simultaneously requiring large quantities of rare items to complete high-tier upgrades.
To address these bottlenecks, Bungie’s end-of-season update makes critical changes to the loot economy. Most notably, Locked Room Keys—an extremely rare drop that grants access to some of the best loot on the Tau Ceti map—are being converted to guaranteed rewards from Warden encounters for the remainder of the season. The update also extends availability for the Cryo Archive, further opening up additional loot opportunities.
These adjustments reflect Bungie’s effort to ease progression barriers before the seasonal reset, ensuring players can more readily access higher-tier activities and complete content without hitting the steep advancement walls that have previously frustrated progression.
