Netflix’s new record-breaking animated hit replaces KPop Demon Hunters
Netflix’s latest animated hit “Swapped,” produced by Skydance Animation, has set a new viewership record on the platform. The film garnered 38.7 million views during its debut week, with 15.5 million viewers during its opening weekend, propelling it to the top of Netflix’s U.S. and English-language global viewing charts.
This breakthrough performance marks a significant moment for the streaming service, as “Swapped” has displaced “KPop Demon Hunters,” which had maintained its position in the platform’s top 10 for an impressive 46 consecutive weeks before dropping out as of May 10.
The animated film tells the story of Ollie, a small pookoo character voiced by Michael B. Jordan, who becomes body-swapped with Ivy, a predatory bird character portrayed by Juno Temple. As their species are natural enemies, the two protagonists must work together to reverse the magical body swap by locating a mystical seed pod. Throughout their journey, they challenge the deep-rooted conflict between their communities and discover the possibility of coexistence and understanding.
The film’s immediate success demonstrates Netflix’s continued investment in high-quality animated content and its ability to attract mass audiences. “Swapped” represents both a personal achievement for Skydance Animation and a win for Netflix as it continues to strengthen its position in the competitive streaming entertainment landscape.
