Last Flag dev Night Street Games is laying off staff
Night Street Games, the developer funded by members of the band Imagine Dragons, has announced staff layoffs after its multiplayer hero shooter Last Flag failed to achieve financial success. Executive producer Jonathan Jelinek confirmed the news via LinkedIn, stating that the studio made “a reduction in our team” following disappointing financial performance.
Last Flag launched just weeks ago before production was paused. The game had not resonated with audiences to the degree Night Street anticipated when it began development with backing from Imagine Dragons members.
“Some exceptionally talented developers were affected by this decision,” Jelinek wrote in his announcement. The executive producer did not disclose the total number of affected employees but indicated the cuts were significant enough to warrant public attention and support.
In a show of solidarity with affected staff, Jelinek committed to helping displaced developers find new employment opportunities. He announced plans to share individual profiles of job-seeking team members on LinkedIn and called out to companies seeking experienced Unreal Engine developers. “If you or your company are seeking experienced Unreal Developers who contributed to our project, please reach out,” he stated.
The layoffs come as part of a broader industry downturn that has seen numerous studios reduce headcount. Despite recently assuring players that Last Flag “wasn’t going anywhere,” the studio’s shift in strategy reflects the challenging economics of live-service game development, where financial thresholds must be met shortly after launch to justify continued investment.
