As Xbox ‘Reevaluates’ Exclusives, Its Hellblade 2 PS5 Port Is Considered a Success

Microsoft is reconsidering its approach to porting first-party Xbox games to competitor platforms, with new leadership under Asha Sharma seeking to strengthen the Xbox brand’s market position. The company has found commercial success with its existing multi-platform strategy, particularly with releases on PlayStation 5.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, developed by Ninja Theory, exemplifies this success following its PlayStation 5 Enhanced edition release last year. According to Ninja Theory’s latest financial statements, the studio reported a £5 million profit and specifically highlighted the “successful release of Hellblade II on PlayStation 5” as a contributor to these results. The developer is now directing focus toward future projects.

While concrete sales figures for the PS5 port remain undisclosed, the positive financial results and Ninja Theory’s characterization of the release as successful indicate strong market reception. This performance occurs as Microsoft evaluates whether to expand its first-party portfolio beyond Xbox platforms, signaling a potential strategic shift toward greater multi-platform availability for future releases.
