AMD FSR 4.1 Now Coming to Older Radeon 7000 GPUs in July After Radeon 9000 Debut, With Radeon 6000 Support Coming in 2027

AMD has announced plans to expand access to its FSR 4.1 upscaling technology to older generations of Radeon graphics cards. The AI-powered upscaling and frame generation suite, which originally launched as an exclusive feature for the company’s latest-generation Radeon 9000 (RDNA 4) GPUs in March 2026, will now be made available to users of older hardware through a phased rollout.

Radeon RX 7000-series cards (RDNA 3 architecture) will receive FSR 4.1 support in July 2026, while Radeon RX 6000-series cards (RDNA 2 architecture) will gain access in early 2027. AMD’s head of computing and graphics, Jack Huynh, stated that the company has invested significant effort into optimizing the upscaling suite for older hardware to ensure strong performance across previous-generation architectures.

The expansion addresses a limitation that previously excluded older GPU owners from accessing the improved upscaling technology, despite evidence from modders and leaked builds showing the capability existed on older hardware. With the rollout, users of these older cards will gain access to FSR 4.1 across more than 300 supported games, including titles such as Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 6, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The phased approach ensures that specific architectural optimizations can be tailored to each GPU generation, potentially providing a better experience than a simultaneous universal release.
