Doctor Who Lands New AMC+ Streaming Home Following Collapse of Disney Deal

Doctor Who’s modern revival era (2005-2022) has found a new streaming home on AMC+ beginning June 11, ending a nearly year-long absence from U.S. streaming services. The deal encompasses all 13 seasons and approximately 175-176 episodes from the show’s 2005 revival run, spanning from Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor through Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor, along with various special episodes.

The arrangement follows HBO Max’s removal of the entire revival era last July, leaving U.S. audiences without legal access to nearly two decades of the beloved British sci-fi series. During that gap, Disney+ retained exclusive rights to the newer episodes produced under BBC Studios’ now-concluded partnership with Disney, featuring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor—content that remains unavailable on AMC+.

The move comes after the collapse of the BBC’s relationship with Disney, which had been producing new Doctor Who content alongside streaming the classic revival era. AMC+’s acquisition signals a significant shift in the franchise’s U.S. distribution strategy. Fan speculation suggests the deal could expand to include additional Doctor Who content, potentially broadening AMC+’s sci-fi programming offerings and providing more comprehensive access to the series for streaming audiences.
